01. The Challenge
Chargezone had built India's most expansive public EV charging network, with high-speed stations rolling out across highways and cities. But as their infrastructure scaled, their mobile app, the primary touchpoint for EV drivers finding, using, and paying for charging sessions, wasn't keeping pace. The experience was fragmented, the interface unintuitive, and for a first-time user pulling up to a charging station with a low battery, every extra tap mattered. They needed an app that could match the ambition of their network and earn the trust of a rapidly growing, diverse base of EV drivers across India.
02. The Solution
We mapped the end-to-end journey of an EV driver from planning a long-distance trip to locating a station, initiating a charge, and tracking a session in real time. We used that to identify where the existing experience was breaking down. From there, we restructured the app's information architecture around the moments that mattered most, simplifying navigation and reducing friction at every critical step. The visual design was overhauled to convey a modern and confident feel, featuring a cleaner interface, clearer station status indicators, and a faster path from app open to charge start. We also introduced features to support trip planning and charging history, giving drivers more control and confidence on the road.
03. The Result
The revamped app gave Chargezone a mobile experience worthy of its position as India's largest EV charging network. Drivers could now find stations, check real-time availability, and initiate sessions with significantly fewer steps. The streamlined experience reduced drop-offs during the charging flow and contributed to stronger session completion rates. More broadly, the app became a reflection of Chargezone's larger mission: making the shift to electric seamless, reliable, and built for the road ahead. But most importantly, the average Play Store rating of the app went from 3.4 to 4.1 over the course of just 3 months.
